Inspired to RISE - Day 6 Bible Plan
How Your Actions Influence Others
DEVOTIONAL
In our fame obsessed world, we are pretty interested in people who do GREAT things.
Martin Luther King Jr - Leader of the civil rights movement
Steve Jobs - Co-founder and CEO of Apple Computers
Dwayne Johnson - famous wrestler, actor and millionaire
Louis Riel - Canadian political leader who fought for the rights of the Metis people
Mother Teresa - tiny Jesus ninja who brought dignity to thousands of dying people in the slums of Calcutta
Mother Teresa is a fantastic example of someone who lived in obedience to Jesus and changed the world because of it. She met with presidents and won prestigious awards and inspired millions of people to live with compassion and to care for the poor. Yet, many of her most influential quotes go something like this “Small things done with great love, will change the world.” Although she did inspiring charitable acts that made her famous, her best advice for us is to serve others in small, ordinary ways because if every person reading this did that, we would influence hundreds, if not thousands of people with the love of God.
Sure, putting dishes away without being asked, sitting with the new kid at lunch, picking up the garbage that isn’t yours, or praying for a friend who is having a bad day is not nearly as cool as meeting world leaders, or being rich or famous, but it is this kind of service Jesus demonstrated, calls us to follow and will reward when we stand before him one day.
How did Jesus demonstrate love to others? What is one small, practical thing you can do today to share his world-changing love with those around you?

BIBLE VERSES
James 3:3-12
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.
Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declares that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
