I Use My Voice - Fola Adelugba

My name is Fola Adelugba and I’m the Inspire Program Manager.

Recently I’ve been learning that my voice MATTERS.

Maybe you’re like me that often thinks that because of the way I look, sound, my gender, age and so many other things that no one wants to hear what I have to say.

Last summer I learned how important it is to talk about what you believe in and to stand up when you see injustice because it matters and your voice can make a difference.

One of my favourite bible stories talks about this. The book of Esther is about a young girl who has to use her voice to stand up against injustice in the world and even though she’s scared, and only has one little voice it makes a BIG difference.

When she was considering not using her voice, and staying silent, her cousin (and mentor) asks her this question “Maybe you have been put in this position for such a time as this?”

That verse encourages me because it makes me think that God can put me in situations that seem scary because He has given me a voice and opinion that’s just right for the moment.

So even if you’re scared, young, old, don’t have many followers or don’t feel like you fit in, be encouraged that you are the able to speak up and that your voice MATTERS!

Your voice can inspire and help others to overcome injustice because YOU have influence.
